Coach La'Shawn Brown, one of the most decorated women's basketball & athletic players in the entire city of Cleveland, Ohio. The Cleveland Hts. alums illustrious basketball career stems from 7th grade to current day being a head basketball coach.
Brown, Class Of 1991, played three sports at Cleveland Heights as well including volleyball, basketball and track. She was part of the 1989 state champion track team. Brown was twice named MVP of the LEL. Brown was also just one of three high school players chosen to play on the Gold medal North Team in the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival. She also was named a Street and Smith's All-American as she earned a scholarship to Louisiana Tech.
Brown was team captain during her junior and senior years at Louisiana Tech as she led the team to the national championship game in 1994 before the Bulldogs lost to North Carolina by a point.
She played in the American Basketball League, winning a championship with the Columbus Quest in 1996. She was also drafted by the Washington Mystics in the inaugural WNBA Draft in 1998. Brown was an assistant coach at Lakeland Community College only to use that experience to currently be the Head Coach at Orange High School.
Over 35 years and continuing with Basketball and education, Coach Brown, member of the Cleveland Hts. High School athletic hall of fame, is passing down her knowledge to the young women athletes she teaches and coaches.
